A modern dry mill needs different machines for different decisions
No single item of coffee processing equipment can remove every defect. A screen separates by size, an aspirator responds to airflow, a destoner separates dense foreign objects, a gravity table works with density, and an optical sorter makes decisions from visible color, shape and surface texture. A good plant combines these functions in the right sequence.

Receiving, hulling and pre-cleaning equipment
Intake hoppers and controlled conveyors stabilize material movement. Depending on the coffee received, hulling or dry milling removes the outer layers before green-bean grading. Aspiration and pre-cleaning equipment remove dust, light husk and loose material that would otherwise consume capacity later in the line.
Good dust control improves the working environment and helps keep optical surfaces clean. Equipment access matters as much as nominal capacity: operators need space to inspect, clean and service each stage.
Size, density and foreign-material separation
Screen graders divide beans by dimensions, supporting more consistent downstream processing and commercial grading. Destoners target heavy foreign objects, while density separators can divide beans and impurities that behave differently by specific gravity. These stages reduce the range of material presented to the final visual inspection.
They do not replace a coffee color sorter. A black or insect-damaged bean may have a similar size and density to an accepted bean; optical sorting addresses the visible difference that mechanical separation cannot use.
Optical sorting as the visual quality gate
WESORT coffee sorting equipment uses cameras and configurable programs to classify visible bean differences and timed air ejection to separate selected material. Green and roasted coffee need different recipes. The choice of machine size and vision configuration should follow sample testing, target output and the expected defect concentration.
Place the sorter where the product is clean enough for reliable presentation and where accepted and rejected outlets can be handled independently. Provide space for safe access, routine cleaning and sample collection.
Utilities, control and packing are part of the line
Adequate compressed air is essential for optical ejection. Electrical supply, air treatment, ventilation and dust extraction should be confirmed before installation. Buffers and conveyors must prevent surges that overload one machine while starving another.
After final inspection, weighing, bagging, sealing, coding and traceability systems complete the production flow. Quality-control staff should be able to link a packed lot to its recipe, inspection samples and relevant processing records.
Plan the plant from samples and flow data
Before selecting equipment, document the incoming material, hourly and seasonal output, target grades, visible defects, layout, utilities and packing method.
