Buying a vertical machining center is not a one-off purchase. It is a ten-year relationship with a lump of cast iron that either holds tenths or slowly stops holding them. Most of the decision happens before the purchase order is signed — in the questions you ask about ball screws, lubrication, acceptance testing and who answers the phone in year four.
This is a practical checklist for overseas buyers, importers and distributors evaluating the Vanant range from Jiangsu Vanant CNC Technology Co., Ltd. — a national high-tech enterprise founded in 2013 and operating under its own brand since 2019, based in Wuzhong District, Suzhou.
Start With What You Can See on the Machine
The Vanant vertical machining centers are full-enclosure designs in blue and black, with sliding front doors and large viewing windows so the operator can watch the cut without opening the work zone. The control pendant is mounted on an arm at the right-hand side of the machine — screen, MDI keypad and machine panel in one unit — with a coiled-cable handwheel for manual jogging and setup work. A signal tower sits at the top of the column, and the base carries adjustable leveling feet plus a chip and coolant collection area at floor level.
Warning and safety labels are applied in a single stacked panel on the left-hand enclosure, which matters more than it sounds: it means service staff can find the safety information in one place, and it means the machine was designed for a documented European or North American shop floor rather than adapted for one afterward.
The Platform Range: Match the Machine to the Part
Vanant builds a family of vertical machining centers plus a high-speed drilling and tapping center. The travel envelope is the first filter:
VNT-A855 — 800 × 550 × 550 mm travels, 1000 × 550 mm table, 800 kg load, BT-40, 11 kW spindle, 24-tool disc magazine with 1.8 s tool-to-tool change, 36/36/36 m/min rapids, ±0.005 mm positioning and ±0.003 mm repeatability.
VNT-A1160 — 1100 × 600 × 600 mm travels, 1200 × 600 mm table, 45 mm roller linear guides, approximately 7,000 kg machine weight.
VNT-A1270 — 1200 × 700 × 600 mm travels, 1300 × 700 mm table, approximately 9,000 kg.
VNT-A1370 — 1300 × 700 × 700 mm travels, 1400 × 700 mm table, 1,000 kg table load, BT-40 or BT-50 spindle options, ±0.003 mm positioning, 30 kVA power capacity.
S600 drilling and tapping center — 620 × 420 × 330 mm travels, 20,000 rpm direct-driven BT-30 spindle, 48/48/48 m/min rapids, 21-tool magazine. This is the machine for high-volume small parts with a lot of holes and a lot of tapping.
All VMC models share a common design language: BT-40 taper, 10,000 rpm belt-driven or 12,000 rpm direct-driven spindle, 1–10,000 mm/min cutting feed, 0.001 mm minimum input unit, and an ATC disc arm-type tool changer.
Where the Accuracy Actually Comes From
Accuracy claims are easy to print. What matters is the mechanism holding them. Vanant uses precision ground grade pre-stretched ball screws with pre-tensioned, rigidly fixed bearing arrangements to remove backlash, heat-treated for wear and torsion resistance. The three axes run on precision-grade high-rigidity linear guides — 35/45 mm on the A855, 45 mm roller guides on the larger frames.
Lubrication is the quiet failure point on any VMC. Vanant fits a volumetric (positive displacement) lubrication system with a pressure-relief oil pump, delivering a fixed quantity of thin oil to each point at stable pressure and flow, so every sliding surface gets uniform forced lubrication. Spindle thermal growth is handled with a circulating water jacket fed by an oil chiller unit, keeping the spindle temperature stable across a shift.
One more detail worth flagging on the larger frames: the structure uses a widened inclined base with anchor feet, and the Z-axis and X-axis are supported across a wide slider span — the kind of design decision that shows up as surface finish consistency on heavy interrupted cuts, not on a spec sheet.
A Component List You Can Audit
Vanant publishes its key component suppliers by brand and country of origin, which is unusual and useful. On the VMC range: CNC control from SYNTEC, FANUC or Mitsubishi (Taiwan / Japan); servo motors from the same three; spindles from Ruien, Okada or Kenchun (Taiwan); ball screws and linear guides from HIWIN, PMI or SHAC (Taiwan) at JIS-C3 grade; screw bearings from NSK or NACHI (Japan); electrical components from Schneider (France); pneumatic components from Mindman; screw couplings from Xibeke, Chengzhi or R+W (China / Germany).
The technical agreement explicitly states that if an original supplier cannot deliver, components of equivalent quality from alternative qualified brands will be adopted, with origin noted. For a distributor, that clause is the difference between a stalled shipment and a machine that ships on schedule with a documented substitution.
Installation, Acceptance and the Paper Trail
The foundation requirement is concrete with compressive strength above 20.68 MPa, mixed with pebbles, compacted to at least 600 mm thickness, with anti-vibration trenches where vibration sources cannot be avoided. Power is 3-phase AC 380V 50Hz with ±10% tolerance; grounding resistance below 4Ω on copper cable of at least 10 mm². Air supply needs at least 6 kg pressure with 100 μm filtration.
Acceptance runs in two stages. Pre-acceptance happens at the Vanant factory 30 days before delivery against an official checklist. Final acceptance is completed within 3 working days of on-site installation and covers visual inspection and tool inventory, operation testing to factory procedures, performance testing, and geometric accuracy against the factory accuracy report. Items that cannot be verified on site — positioning accuracy, spindle taper — can be inspected at the factory by arrangement.
Vanant sends technicians to inspect the site and supply foundation drawings, layout drawings and requirements for power, air, water and lubrication one month before delivery. Its own technicians handle positioning, assembly and commissioning, and the company covers their travel, accommodation and meals. Operator training is included in the commissioning visit. Standard delivered documents include the machine accuracy inspection report, CNC system manual and operation manual.
Warranty and the Long Tail
Under correct installation, operation and maintenance, the technical agreement for the VNT-A855 and the S600 states 36 months of free warranty from the date the machine arrives at the customer’s site. Damage from improper handling, prolonged storage, incorrect operation or unauthorized disassembly is excluded. After warranty, Vanant provides lifelong paid maintenance with spare parts and labour billed against a published price list.
Why This Matters for Distributors
A distributor’s reputation is built on machines that behave the same in year three as in month one. Vanant’s value proposition — advanced technology, good quality, moderate pricing, attentive service — is aimed squarely at being a dependable alternative partner for machining businesses rather than a premium badge. That translates into a coherent platform range, shared component families across models, and a documented technical agreement behind every unit, which makes spare parts planning and service training far more predictable than a mixed fleet of one-off imports.
Next Step
If you are specifying a VMC for a customer, a contract machining cell or a distribution line, send the part drawings and the batch profile. Vanant will match the model and confirm the configuration in writing.
